Who Is Oscar Anyway?

Alright who watched the Oscars this past weekend?
I sure did.
And who caught the red carpet show?
I did. Duh :)
Lately my time devoted to various design projects has been strictly for my spring formal that is fast approaching.
That's right, I'm making my own dress :)
If it turns out like I'm planning it to, then it will be very cute. And I'll be sure to post about it when I'm finished with it. (Which will hopefully be soon!)
So In honor of both of these I've made a short compilation of different traits of various Oscar gowns and translated them to less formal (but of course still formal) dresses.

The ever so lovely Miss Anne Hathaway wore many gowns that evening. (jealous much) One common trait among them was sparkle. They were long, they were slimming, and they SPARKLED.
Same with Amy Adams. I also liked the cut of her gown. It was conservative without being too covered up. It was classy.
Here are some dresses have the length, sparkle, or cut.

(Poetic Penumbra dress from ModCloth.com and Charlotte Russe $34.99)

( To Have and Behold dress $157.99 and Kalanchoe Blooms $244.99 both from ModCloth.com)

(Forever21 $29.80 and Celebration in Tinsel Town dress from ModCloth.com)
And Nicole Kidman!
I don't know what exactly it was that drew me to her dress, but it is just so interesting! I think it looks better when she is walking in it though.
Anyways, with this dress I like how different it was. The various beading and the not so typical shape was very interesting to look at. So its definitely an attention getter.
Here are a couple of attention-getters...

(Deeply Devoted $74.99 and Cara $199.99 both from ModCloth.com)

And that is that :)
Hopefully it helped if you were in need of some formal dress advice.
If not, it's always fun to look at pretty dresses anyways right?
Until next post,
Peace, Love, Oscar (hehee), and Fashion

Sister Knows Best..

Okay, I'm trying yet another new "segment"-ish thing for my lil blog. I shall call it

(older) SISTER KNOWS BEST!!!

(BTW I'm the older sister ;) )

So this week I told my sister to pick some of her favorite jackets, be it type, color, or something she already owns, and I did the same. Ive listed our picks below along with some reasons why we picked them. Mine are on the top and hers are on the bottom. Get it? Because I'm older?! Kidding...shes actually as tall as I am. Sadly. Well lets get started!

My Pick- American Apparel $46- "I'm really into the hoodies with the white zipper and drawstring at the moment."
Her Pick-Lulu Lemon Limited Edition Hoodie- "I like all the different colors and that it can zip up all the way."

My Pick-Forever 21 $32.80- I like the different cut of the jacket and the buttons."
Her Pick-Charlotte Russe $39.50- "I like the fit and the collar."

My Pick-Forever 21 $44.50- " I love the collar! The whole coat looks so cozy."
Her Pick-Charlotte Russe 49.50- "I like the fabric and the pockets."

My Pick- Forever 21 $22.80- "I really like the cute zipper embellishment."
Her Pick- Forever 21 $27.80- "I love the color!"

My Pick- American Eagle Outfitters $45.95- "I think that denim jackets can dress up any casual outfit."
Her Pick- Forever 21 $24.90- "I like the striped design at the top and the sleeves."

My Pick- Aeropostale $59.99- "This is durable yet still has a cute look to it. Plus it reminds me of Edward Cullen ;) lol
Her Pick- Forever 21 $24.90- " I like how soft and comfortable this looks!"

My Pick- Forever 21 $42- "I wish this picture was bigger...But I like the details all over the jacket."
Her Pick- Forever 21 $17.80- " I like the button down front part."

Now for a few observations... (I feel like this is some sort of experiment or something!)
1)I tend to like the darker side of the color wheel.
2) She goes for the more comfortable sweaters and I like the jackets with detail.
and 3) I'm surprised she actually did this. If you knew her you would know why ;)
Thanks again Amber!
Until Next Post,

Falling For Fall Fashions....While Falling. Just Kidding On That Last Part ;)

Okay, so today was probably the first day of fall weather here in (most of the time) sunny California. Since I absolutely love fall, I was a very happy camper :) And in honor of breaking out my winter wardrobe I've made a list (along with the help of some dear friends ;) ) of what I think will be some hot trends in fall 2010.

For the girls~
*Knit hats! But in bright colors. Yes I feel that we will be seeing splashes of color this fall along with the usual blacks and browns.

*Colorful, chunky accessories. Like belts, pendant necklaces, and rings.

*Lace :) But not alot, just with leggings and tights. Maybe in a blouse. Maybe.

*Scarfs! Essential. I especially see the bandanna style being more popular. And with color. Duh.

*Denim. Dark wash. Definitely.

*BOOTS!! Oh I love my boots. I have a few pairs that I'm for sure ready to wear out this fall.

*Jacket. Not just any old jacket but a statement jacket. One that people look at and know its you. I feel that leather will be popular with the occasional military style. Also(especially if you are in a colder climate) a trench coat. They can be used for special and even not so special occasions. And hey, perfect for winter also.

Charlotte Russe~9.50 and Forever 21~6.80

Charlotte Russe ~7.50 and American Eagle~19.50

Charlotte Russe~32.50 and Charlotte Russe~32.80

American Eagle~39.50 and Forever 21~32.80

Now boys, I didn't forget about you ;)

Here are some "predictions" I have for you~

* Sweaters. Not the itchy grandpa kind. I think the Vneck sweater will be a favorite along with a button down cardigan. Hey girls may wear the "grandfather sweater" but guys can rock it ;)

* Beanies! I'm talking about the cool slouchy ones.

*Jeans! Denim. Also dark wash boys :)

Forever21 ~ 27.90 and Forever21~ 24.90 Hat from Forever 21~ 8.90

American Eagle Outfitters~39.50 and Aeropostale~ 19.75

Well that's pretty much all that I have gathered. Maybe it was helpful? Hopefully?

Any who, I was happy to share the ideas. That and I'm just plain happy for fall :)

Until next blog,

Peace, Love, and FALL FASHION,

Em

What Summer Does To Your Brain

So like I stated in my last post, I've been on vacation the past week. And I HONESTLY thought that something would happen on said vacation to inspire a post but, it didn't. Horrible.
I did go see America's largest residential home, Biltmore Estates, and it was GORGEOUS. And there were alot of old period pieces and the tapestry was AMAZING. But I couldn't take pictures. So can't blog about that. Sorry.

Since no inspiration came, I'm seriously not sure what to blog about. And darn summer weather and a nice book are calling my name. Tempting.

I could also blog about JOSEPH GORDON LEVITT! Because I saw INCEPTION last night. And the man DOES have some pretty nice style in that movie (especially this one vest that he wears, PERFECTION). But nahhh.

I feel so strange about post more "summer styles" and I'm sure you're probably tired of reading about them.

Now that I've thought of something, I can stop wasting your time.

I know it is a tad warmer outside, but lets talk about layers. Not everywhere but just tops and jackets and such. While in my hotel room I was watching Wizards of Waverly place and got inspired by the main character, Alex's, style. Like does she wear layers with every outfit?!? Anywho I thought it was cute. So here is some visual stimulation to help explain what I'm talking about :)

(Sweater -Forever 21- 17.80 and blouse- Charlotte Russe- 20.00)

(Belt- Charlotte Russe- 9.50 and tank- Styles For Less- 7.99)

(Shirt-Styles For Less- 7.99)(tube top-Charlotte Russe-20.00)
You could also layer see through or distressed tanks with lace or plain tops. Just use your creative fashion juices ;)
Hope that helps :D
