So I trust that, like myself, every other student has had to do some sort of required reading. (actually I don't really mind reading :) ) Well while shopping in Newport a couple of weeks ago, I was in Urban Outfitters and found by far my most enjoyable summer reading book. Well if you could call it that.
It is "...Isms, Understanding Fashion" By Mairi Mackenzie. Even I will admit I don't know EVERYTHING there is to know about my beloved hobbie, and when friends ask me what a certain fashion term means I don't always know. So not only is it filled with amazing photography of some pretty amazing pieces, but it also is pretty helpful.
Now I'm sharing some of my fav chapters with you! (thanks to my trusty scanner) Total everything credits to this book. Hopefully this isn't plagiarism? Hmm.
Lovely cover no?...
And duhh my first lil fav chapter will be the VINTAGE! :)
(Taken from the book)
The main figures for this trend are
Keni Valenti (1958-), Kira Jolliffe (1972-), Bay Garnett (1973-), Kate Moss (1974-), and Cameron Silver (1969-)
And here are some reference pics. While I'm at this "credit" thing, photo creds to Google :D
The magazine with a take on thrift store couture, written by Kira Jolliffe and Bay Garnett
Key catalyst, Kate Moss, rocking vintage tops and jackets. Also is a big fan of TopShop (a vintage online store, in case your wondering)
Cameron Silver, owns Decades in Los Angeles which caters to Hollywoods vintage needs.
Keni Valenti, former designer and now New York's "King of Vintage"
And of course I have to show of some Marchesa!! Here are some vintage inspired looks from a 2009 collection.
Wow, what started out as an "easy" post (because I thought I would just scan the book and be done with it) has turned into quite a chore!!!!
Oh wells, enjoy!
Peace, Love, and Fashion,
Em
