Crazy Couture. Is Couture Really Crazy?

(Just a little p.s. it took forever to think of what to call this little piece. Sad I know)

So I've kinda always wanted to talk about a favorite fashion term of mine, couture. Those of you who may be asking "what the heck does that mean?!", it's pretty much a fancy word for a fancy style of clothing. Really interesting clothing that is EXTREMELY hard to wear on a normal day.

Although couture pieces may seem like a waste of time to an everyday joe-shmoe(no idea if that's the correct spelling) its really fun to just LOOK at it! I myself have tried to make something couture, and have almost succeeded. Except then I get really bored (very time consuming if done right) and I end up changing whatever I'm working on into a functional outfit. Yeah oops...

Here are a few images for visual stylization thanks to the ever helpful Google and my new trusty fashion terms or "isms" book.
A brief overview of what couture is...
"The strictly governed and elitist Parisian Haute-Couture industry was formally founded in 1864 by Charles Frederick worth. In 1939 there were 70 members, but today only 11 remain, nearly all of which operate at a financial loss. These statistics suggest the imminent demise of what was once the most influential sector of the fashion industry. However, to paraphrase Mark Twain, reports of the Death of Couture have been greatly exaggerated and it has continued to play an important, if diminished, role in the global fashion economy."-taken from the Death of Couture chapter in the book "...isms Understanding Fashion by Mairi Mackenzie
So pretty much its just when the designer went from dressmaking and designing as a trade to making it into an artform.
Important figures in the world of Couture are Yves Saint Laurent, John Galliano, and Valentino Garavani.
Enough technical. Here are the pictures I promised :)

Ok so there was a "Birth of Couture" chapter, but this had way better pictures on it

Alright, so not a big fan of Hello Kitty myself but...really?? And My aunt loves frogs... :/

The queen of "wearable couture" herself, Lady G.

I picked this because LOOK AT IT! I absolutely adore the colors, and the scene and everything fits so well!

Kinda "Queen of Hearts" esque no? I think so. Very Alice in Wonderland :)

This shoe from Balenciaga! Looks like bike parts and legos. Couldn't even imagine what to wear with these bad boys!....Maybe lots of leather?....a helmet?
